Our wonderful school store is open for business Monday-Thursday 8:15-3:45, Fridays 9:00-11:00 and like all fine shops, by appointment! We have student made work, pencils, leather bags and other, wonderful items. With the holidays fast approaching this is the place to come for all of your gift giving needs! All proceeds go directly to TWS, so come on in!!
TWS needs a well house before winter to protect our system from freezing. The design will incorporate many sustainable building ideas such as rammed earth tires and straw bale walls.
The building project began September the 28th with a tire pounding party and will continue October the 5th. If you are interested in sustainable building and wish to contribute to the betterment of our school, please come and join Ted Elsasser, Waldorf parent, licensed contractor and owner of Taos Off Grid, a building and design business, to help construct our well house.
Now that school is in full swing we are finding that the pick up of students needs a reminder. Early childhood pick up is from 2:45-3:00 and the grades is from 3:00-3:15. Please be respectful to your child’s teacher and BE ON TIME!!!
Also be mindful that pick up means that you sign them out, then have them within your eyesight and under your care (not your teachers). It is always wonderful to see parents visiting, making play dates and engaging with one another after school, but please remember that our wonderful teachers have things to do after their class time and we need to honor their precious time. Additionally, please make arrangements for you child’s pick up before school so he or she knows the plan. Many thanks!!
We are opening our doors and welcoming the greater Taos community! Parents, if you know anyone who is interested in learning more about Waldorf education or if you are curious about what happens in Waldorf early childhood or grades classes, visit us on Saturday, October the 12th between 10 and 12 for an open-school. We will have curriculum demonstrations in all classes and story telling and star apples in the Early Childhood rooms. All are welcome to come to our beautiful grounds to play and learn.
Back Porch Farm tailgate sales will be on Thurs afternoons only, from 2:30 - 3:30 in the parking lot. I still need to take jar deposits if customers do not bring a jar to exchange, but there will be no "delivery fee". Instead the Farm will donate 10% of all sales to TWS which means more for the school, less for the customer, and it is easier for me!
Much love and healthful eating! MacLaren, Randy and Isla
The festivals at a Waldorf School are at the heart of the school and we invite you to become part of making this magic happen for our children and community. Harvest festival is nearly upon us and the festival committee would like to invite all families to come and help us create this and future festivals! We will be meeting the third Tuesday of each month, beginning on Tuesday, September 17th in the Gnomes classroom. We will be planning the festivals and also making hand made toys for the May Faire during these meetings. Please consider joining us to do this wonderful work for our school from 3:15-4:45 on the 17th!
Every year the 10th grade at Shining Mountain Waldorf School in Boulder, Colorado embarks on a service project. They will join us again this year as they work on Taos Pueblo and spend some time with our classes as well. Their group will camp in our back field and use our school as home base. It is always a nice experience for our Waldorf school to have time with high schoolers from a Waldorf School to see the full circle of this kind of education. Please feel free to say hello and to ask them about their projects here.
Dear Waldorf Families,
TWS has agreed to allow our family to sell our farm products in the school parking lot at pick up time from 2:45-3:15 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. I usually sell to restaurants directly and families by delivery or farm pick up. My delivery charge is $1 per purchase to cover gas costs. I will be offering TWS this $1 "delivery" fee in exchange for the use of their location.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us as Waldorf parents to support our family's health by consuming fresh, raw, organic farm products; support our Waldorf school with our small donation per purchase; support our community by keeping our dollars in Taos; and support our planet by purchasing local goods (less use of fossil fuel) from small organic family farms which improves the health of all: planet, land, community, family and individual.
Welcome to Jennifer and Vanessa!
You may have noticed some new but familiar faces in the TWS office. We are very excited to welcome Jennifer Foley as our new Administrator and Vanessa Lovato as our new Office Manager.
The Administrator’s job encompasses everything that keeps the school going on a day to day basis. Working side-by-side with the Administrator, the Office Manager keeps the office running smoothly and oversees the volunteers who have graciously donated their time to this department via the ATA conversations.
Jennifer Foley is a former TWS parent and previously was the Administrator at the Coop. Vanessa Lovato’s daughter Annabeth is in Gaia’s third grade, and her other daughter Joleen is in Allison’s second grade.
Café Este is Now Open
Scott Esty, our beloved Strings teacher, is also a coffee roaster and Barrista extraordinaire. His signature whole-bean coffee is roasted right here on campus, and it’s available for sale in the office. You can pay via PayPal and pick it up here, or just buy it in the office. Yum!
Snow days! Same as the public schools, listen to KTAO (101.9FM) for updates. Let it snow, let it snow!!!
